Wheelchair Parts For All Brands and Locations
If you've ever tried shopping for wheelchair parts, you know how difficult it can be to find the right part for the correct brand of wheelchair. If you buy Quickie parts for an Aspire wheelchair, they aren't going to work. If you bought a wheelchair in the UK, you need wheelchair parts from the UK, and so on and so forth! Instead of buying the wheelchair accessories and parts for your chair directly from the manufacturers, you can often receive discounted items by finding wholesalers or small online businesses that specialize in your particular brand of wheelchair. First, verify the make and model of your wheelchair (just like you would your vehicle!). If you have a Quickie p220, you're going to need wheelchair parts that are specific to that brand of electric wheelchair. Take a moment to get your wheelchair paperwork together so that you'll know exactly what parts you can order for your chair. For electric wheelchairs, it is not unusual to have to replace the batteries over time. It may also be a good idea to have a few batteries on hand, so you can exchange them if the battery should die in an inopportune time. Keep one battery on the charger and another to power your wheelchair. For both electric and manual chairs, you might also consider keeping a few extra tires on hand, in case you get a flat or experience wear and tear on yours. Other wheelchair parts are typically only purchased when they are needed. For example, most people don't buy extra control panels for their electric chairs until necessary- since they are fairly expensive and do not need to be replaced all that often. Usually the control unit can be serviced and repaired rather than having to be replaced when something goes wrong with this part. Same with electric wheelchair motors- it does not make sense to have additional motors on hand when your existing motor can usually be repaired when something goes wrong. While many wheelchair parts are important to the overall functioning of your chair, there are also items you may want but could live without! Accessories make having to spend much of your time in a wheelchair a little more bearable. There are chair backpacks or under the seat bags, to help you carry items with your chair. You can buy and add on wheel locks to keep your chair in place on terrain that is not level. Quickie sells a small chair specific toolkit, that consists of allen keys, a spoke combination wrench, axle sleeve wrench, and reversible screwdriver that you can hang off your chair and use to fix any small problem that might occur while riding in your wheelchair. In order to keep your clothing out of the wheels of your chair, you can purchase plastic side guards. These come in standard gray- or you can have fun and purchase colored guards to dress up the chair a bit!
